Student Housing On-campus student housing is available which provides students with opportunities for fellowship and spiritual growth in a Christian environment. However, accommodations are available for single students only. Student housing is under the supervision of the college administration that handles matters of conduct and discipline. No pets of any kind are allowed on-campus or when off-campus facilities are necessitated. This includes pets of students and/or of students' families. All student housing is subject to periodic inspections without prior notice to determine that good housekeeping standards are being complied with. No overnight guests are permitted in student housing, whether on or off campus. Due to enourmous energy costs, students are not allowed to lower thermostats below 72 degrees nor higher than 78 degrees. Christian Service Since Christian service is the natural outgrowth of the Christian life, all students are expected to seek opportunities for service while in attendance at Blueridge College of Evangelism. This begins with fellowship in a local congregation, but much of a student's valuable spiritual growth and educational experience comes from witnessing the dynamics of church life in various congregations. Therefore, while attending the brotherhood churches for spiritual enrichment each student is asked not to exceed two semesters in any one congregation without a written consent form in your file from the Academic Dean's Office. This does not apply to internship programs. Students residing in college housing are also expected, as part of their Christian service and witness, to positively present the work of BCE at a member church at least once per semester. Any fee or honorarium given for that presentation must be turned over to the college treasurer for deposit into the college's general fund. BCE's emphasis on evangelism is a prominent aspect of the core curriculum, so students are encouraged to begin visitation with the leadership of their congregations. This becomes the basis for formal Christian service requirements in BCE's academic program. The evangelism courses (beginning with PM 101...., etc), and their co-requisite field experience courses (PM 101F...., etc), are designed for students to record their church attendance/service experience on the "Christian Service Reporting Form." Submitted to the student's evangelism instructor (PM 101/101F...., etc), this documentation determines the student's grade for the field experience portion of the course (PM 101F...., etc). Dress Code Poper attire, as benefitting one who belongs to Christ, is expected for BCE classes, chapel services, college and student activities, and church functions. Non-chapel days allow decent, casual dress, while chapel services require more formal attire. Men are expected to wear suitable business jackets with ties; women are expected to be modest and appropriate, in non-revealing clothing, all of which reflects one's Christian commitment. The student is cautioned to remember that impressions made by outward appearance can bear witness of one's character and can bring either glory or disdain for our Lord. Students who fail to uphold the Christian name in this manner by wearing inappropriate clothing will be disciplined by the college administration as it sees fit and within keeping of BCE's standards of conduct for its Christian community. Chapel Services A period in mid-morning (Mondays and Thursdays, or as designated) is devoted to chapel services. Special guests, faculty, and students provide the chapel programs. All students are encouraged to attend these services, but attendance is mandatory for full-time students who are not otherwise employed. Conduct and Character It is common sense that students coming to Bible college be dedicated to the service of our Lord Jesus Christ and that their behavior be exemplary in that regard. However, to maintain a higher set of moral and academic standards than those of any other people in the world, the following procedures will be addressed. It is the desire of the faculty and administration of the college that each student's witness for the Lord be effective, appreciated, and maintained. Students may not receive their mail at the college's address, but must procure their own mailboxes at the local post office. Computers have been provided in the library for student use and preparation of class work, including Internet connections. Be forwarned, however. Any pornography discovered under your user name will result in immediate expulsion. The extent of a student's Christian witness is further observed in his/her use of foul language, prejudicial behavoir, obscene behavoir or any behavior deemed inappropriate, whether on or off campus. Questionable behavior will be dealt with under the proper disciplinary guidelines, as reserved by the college. Repeated violations in any manner may result in permanent expulsion from BCE. The possession of firearms, drugs, tobacco, and/or alchohol is not allowed on campus for any reason. Blueridge College of Evangelism reserves the right to inspect all back packs, computer carriers, gym bags, or other means of carrying the above-mentioned items. This includes random searches of any area under college jurisdiction as deemed necessary and appropriate by the administration. Students are on their honor, as children of God, to seek to further their understanding of God's Word in order to serve Him better and to become more like Him. Such sincerity of purpose then reminds each student of the trust that has been given to each Christian to "be holy in all you do" (I Peter 1:15). Each member of the college community is admonished not to betray that trust. Blueridge College of Evangelism assumes high standards of moral and ethical conduct and character as portrayed in the New Testament. Therefore, it is understood that all students who enroll, by so doing, are in sympathy with the college's purpose and policies as outlined in this catalog, and agree to abide by them. If a student violates the rules of the college, BCE reserves the right to take appropriate disciplinary action, including institution of probationary status, suspension, or expulsion from college. In sum, all of BCE's Christian community will be wise to follow Peter's injunction when he writes: Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul. Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day He visits us" (I Peter 2:11-12). |
